My degree is in electrical and computer engineering with experience in software, controls, mechanical devices, electro-mechanical systems, electric power, electronics, fabrication techniques, MEMS, optics, telecommunications, mechanical, and electro-mechanical products. Also, I grew up on a farm where I developed detailed knowledge of mechanical devices and systems. Like you, I am an inventor and have my own issued patents and trademarks. WORK EXPERIENCE:
* Balser & Grell IP Law, Since 2009 Founder of the firm and with 15 years of IP experience Mat currently concentrates his practice in patent, trademark, & copyright drafting and prosecution and business contract drafting and negotiation. We are an intellectual property law firm focused on Patents, Trademarks, Copyrights, Business Contracts, Entity Formation (LLC, S-Corp.), and Internet Law and related Matters. We help inventors and those with an idea, logo or work of art to evaluate the feasibility of their creation.

* Myers & Kaplan, Atlanta GA, 2004-2008. Preparing and prosecuting patents, trademarks, copyrights applications, providing intellectual property advice to clients in a variety of fields, preparing search, infringement, validity, and freedom to operate opinions, and counseling clients in licensing, formation of entity (incorporation, by-laws, shareholder, stock options), strategic business transactions, and IP litigation support. Drafted or prosecuted over 50 US Provisional applications, over 100 US Utility Applications, and over 200 hundred foreign applications since 2004.

Member of the executive team, including detailed experience with formation, raising capital, business contracts, intellectual property, HR/employment, corporate policy, M&A due diligence, dispute resolution, sales and business development support, engineering & product management support, supply management and export compliance. Contract experience – NDA, development, prototyping, contract manufacturing, trials, quality assurance/testing, interoperability, purchase & license, support, maintenance & EFI services, patent & software licensing, reseller/distributor, services, teaming, OEM, software escrow agreements, IT, web development, joint development, supply, promotion, and other legal documents (experience planning, negotiating and executing complex transactions) . Founded & managed an IP disclosure & review committee.

Sr. Licensing Manager, Office of Technology Transfer, Intellectual Property/Licensing: Negotiated & completed over one-hundred (100) licensing deals involving University inventions, managed technical writers, technology marketers and an intellectual property portfolio of 300+ inventions, negotiated and drafted terms and conditions of research, material transfer and license agreements (software & devices), managed patent interference actions, mediation, arbitration, litigation and outside counsel.
* Union Electric, St. Louis, Missouri, 1988-92
Control Systems Engineer, Department of Power Operations, Hydroelectric Power Plants. I managed 15 electricians & mechanics as the senior project engineer for the automation and remote control of hydroelectric generators using PLCs, rewinding of generators and their conversion to static excitation.
* Grell Farms, Inc., Iowa. Grew up on a family farm (grain & livestock).
